Prepare To Slay The Spire A Second Time In 2025

If you ask me, The Triple-I Initiative‘s showcase this afternoon kicked off in the biggest way it could. It took guts to start the presentation by announcing and then asking everything afterward to clear that bar, which is Slay the Spire 2.

That’s right! A sequel to Mega Crit’s deck-building roguelike runaway success is coming in 2025. The debut trailer is short, sweet, and beautifully animated. In it, we get glimpses of the returning classes Silent and Ironclad, and a newcomer known as the Necrobinder.

Slay the Spire 2’s Steam page peppers in some of the sorely needed details we didn’t get from the trailer. It’s alluded to take place 1000 years after the Slay the Spire and will, of course, feature new bosses, enemies, and events. The team has decided to ditch the Unity engine on this climb up the spire, building an engine from the ground up, promising the change will allow for additional moddability and allow the developers the tools to implement “modern features” and “improved visuals.” Despite the change in engine, Slay the Spire 2 keeps the original’s iconic visual style and gameplay.

Mega Crit is once again forgoing a full release and adopting the Early Access model to develop the game while the community can test and provide feedback on its progress. It worked well the first time around, so why mess with a good thing? I can’t wait to see more and will be anxiously awaiting my opportunity to climb the spire once again.
