Game Informer Is Back!

I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to write a news story. Game Informer, the long-time-running and much-loved video game outlet, has returned.

Last week’s teaser — a short clip imparting very little besides asking us to watch for news today — sparked as much concern as hope. For good reason. This brief announcement followed the shocking proclamation last summer from Game Informer’s then-corporate overlord, that the institution was completely dissolved, all staff let go, and the website wiped from the internet.

It gives me great pleasure to assure everyone that GameStop has nothing to do with this fresh chapter. The new owners, Gunzilla via Game Informer Inc., promise to eschew all editorial influence, allowing GI to preserve its long-standing identity. Those involved with the outlet at the time of its closure have been offered roles in the new Game Informer, and, if that wasn’t enough good news, the site — including every past article, video, or post — will also be revived. We can look forward to new issues of the magazine in the future, but access to past favorites is currently available.

Anyone looking for more info can head over to the Game Informer website, which has a convenient FAQ section. All of The Indie Informer’s contributing editors came from the ranks of Game Informer and I’m overjoyed to wish those returning the absolute best!
